How to have a Positive Day

The way you start your morning, can affect your mood and therefore relate to how others are around you. How you begin your morning can either make you have a great day or completely ruin it where you wish you just hadn’t bothered getting out of bed.
I feel the best way to help you have a positive day is to try to lessen the stresses of a busy morning, being a mum to 5 boys I defiantly have stressful mornings but by doing a few extra things the night before and trying to think as positively as possible it makes the day a hell of a lot easier.

“Everyday is a new beginning. Treat it that way. Stay away from what might have been and move on. Don’t let negative words or actions of others affect your smile. Decide that today is going to be a good day.”

Here are my top 5 tips to have a positive day

  1. Prepare the night before lunches, clothes, bags packed, tidy-up anything you can think of that could make the morning rush out of the door, be it to work or the school run, less stressful is best done the night before.
I have found by doing this its the only way I’m able to get out of the door in time, by the time I have done breakfast for 5 children and then myself I have not a lot of time left to be doing ironing, lunches and anything else which needs doing before the school run, so for me doing everything I can the night before really helps keep the mornings as stress-free as possible.
  2. Start your morning with a positive thought is the most important thing you should do before even getting out of bed. By starting your day off with a positive thought can change your whole day.
The first thing I do every morning is tell myself that today is going to be awesome because today we are going to do x,y and z, it really helps uplift my mood when really all I want to do is turn over a stay under my covers in my comfortable bed.
  3. Make a list of things you want to or need to get done that day either on paper or your phone, by doing this you can see what needs to be done even if you only get chance to cross off two things from your list you can still feel a sense of achievement as you can visually see you have completed it and crossed it out.
I  find having a diary really handy for lists as I can have to do lists, shopping list and appointments all in one place. I find by knowing what needs to be done in the day I feel more organised and feel less weighed down to remember that something needs to be done, as for me I’m already in a habit of checking my diary as soon as I wake in the morning.
  4. Plan your weekends on a Monday as this gives you something to look forward to, every morning when you wake and throughout the day you know that you have something planned for the weekend. It doesn’t have to be anything that will cost a small fortune but even a picnic in the park, a walk along the beach or meeting up with some friends can really give your mood a boost.
  5. Aim to leave the house 10 minutes before you need to is something that I find helps my mornings every morning, by setting an alarm on my phone everyone in the house knows when the alarm goes off they need to be getting anything they need for the day and be thinking about leaving the house.
I always have the last-minute dash to find my door keys or one of the children’s missing shoes so this extra 10 minutes I’m always grateful for as I know that even though we could have had a slower walk to school we are still going to make it on time.

Meditate- I didn’t want to add this as a tip as I’m yet to try it myself but from what I’ve read, meditation has quite a fair few benefits.
I’ve downloaded a free app on my iPhone called Headspace which I’m going to put some headphones on before going to sleep, as this is when I have more time and no interruptions to be able to listen and take in what is being said. The complete version of the app isn’t free but there is quite a fair few exercises on there to get you started so it’s defiantly worth having a look at it.

  1. This is a really great list! I love the idea of looking forward to x, y, and z each day. And I absolutely think planning something most weekends is the best way to live! 🙂
